On Saturday April 23, 2005, Officer Lasater was shot while attempting to apprehend an armed robbery suspect. Officer Lasater underwent several hours of surgery and succumbed to his wounds on Sunday, April 24, 2005. Officer Lasater was a member of the Pittsburg Police Department since September 2002, as well as a member of the Pittsburg Police SWAT unit and a former Marine Corps Officer. The Pittsburg Police Department honors Officer Lasater who lost his life in line of duty – and in the protection of the citizens of Pittsburg.

On Tuesday April 15, 2003, Inspector Giacomelli was shot and killed while investigating a homicide. Inspector Giacomelli had gone to a home to interview the suspect, a parolee, about the murder. Inspector Giacomelli’s body was found inside the home by another inspector who was working on the case with him. Inspector Giacomelli had been shot several times and was pronounced dead at the scene. Inspector Giacomelli had been a member of the Pittsburg Police Department since January 1980. The Pittsburg Police Department honors Inspector Giacomelli who lost his life in line of duty – and in the protection of the citizens of Pittsburg.

Officer Buckley was shot by an intoxicated man wielding a gun. Deputy Sal Jimeno, Officer Chris Maze, and Captain Daniel McNeil were all wounded trying to apprehend the suspect but survived their injuries. The suspect was killed in the shootout.
