Double Amputee, Military Veteran becomes Texas Police Officer

FORT WORTH, Texas — Zach Briseno, a double amputee, graduated from the police academy in Fort Worth last week. According to WFAA, the U.S. Marine Corps veteran had always planned to become a cop after he finished his military service.

The Fort Worth Police Department posted a video about the officer’s story to their Facebook page.

Briseno came from a military family and enlisted in the Marines right out of high school. It was during his second tour in Iraq that he lost both his legs in an IED explosion, Briseno said in the video.

“I was in a rollercoaster of emotions,” Briseno said.

The veteran said he had wanted to come back to serve his community after serving his country abroad.

“You can do anything you want to do, you just really have to put the work in for it,” he said. “It will cost you some blood, sweat and tears, but if you want it bad enough, you can do it.”
